Weekly Wishlist: Wooden it be nice..

Wood

Sometimes, I like to think about a simpler time, when carpentry was the king of minimalist interior design and home decoration. From toys to chairs, this wish list is devoted to all things made of wood, from smaller, lesser-known shops.

Ages ago my friend sent me some pictures that she found on VosgesParis of the beautiful products from Sukha Amsterdam (image 1). While I have never managed to go, said friend went a couple of weeks ago to Amsterdam and said it was really cool. So, next holiday, I will definitely be Amsterdam bound to check out the famous Dutch apple cake, the canals and Sukha Amsterdam.

Now, one would think I were broody or something… as two of the products listed on my wishlist are children’s toys (image 2 &3), but the truth is, I am still a child at heart. And while its unlikely you would find me on the floor playing with this wooden lego or these wonderfully minimal toy cars, I do think they would make great features ornamentally. The latter are produced in a tiny workshop in Brick Lane. They sell a few of their products online here.

While I’m not sure you can actually drink out of them, I think these wooden cups from design group Iam Design are so cool. Very nice handles and finish. But my ultimate favourite this week has got to be the Asta chair from Fashion For Home. While this oak finish is cool and contemporary, the Asta also comes in pastel shades of blue and pink as well as yellow and green. So, if you’re a colour lover, you should check it out!

Anyone else got any wooden products to share?

  1. I couldn’t agree more!

I love wooden products and am known for buying wooden toys as kids presents.

Unto this lasts is a great little company.
    Hope you’re well.

I am with said friend! I had the pleasure of visiting Sukha accompanied by the wonderful Desiree Groenendal (the face behind VogesParis) in January and found myself wanting to curl up in every corner of this fabulous hidden gem. Thick knits were everywhere and in the cold of a mid-winter snowstorm, I was very tempted to max out a Mastercard or two. Bring an extra suitcase for visiting Sukha…. you’ll need it!
