Rooms We Heart: Moroccan Chic

Hey everyone!

This beautifully serene turquoise mixed with this deep mediteranean terracotta make for a room that I have barely had the audacity to imagine myself. Love the use of colour, print and warm textiles on tile.

While I think Moroccan style decor fits best in grand rooms with high ceilings in countries with infinite sunshine, there is a lot of room in your average home to bring in some of these colourful North African and Middle Eastern influences. It could just be the perfect way to inject flamboyance with none of the kitsch.

If you wanted to go for a more understated version of this style, you could stick to one base colour (bottom two images) and bring in more neutral printed textiles and mosaics in the form of wall tiles and mirror or picture frames.

What do you guys think? Is Moroccan aesthetic the way forward?

Happy weekend!

  1. Hi Trisha, these colours are so beautiful, especially the blue in the first photo. I have a tagine I display as my little bit of morocco in my home.

Hi Catherine, I am in love with these colours… am working up to using the blue one some central in my bedroom. Was thinking a feature wall. Ooh have you cooked any tagines yet? Let me know if you have any recommendations – I was thinking I would like to do a tagine recipe post. Maybe the prune and lamb one or lemon olive chicken. MMMMMmmmmm.

  2. I love moroccan style. Marrakesh is one of the cities top of my list to visit. I hope I can stay somewhere as beautiful as this :)

Hi :) thanks for your comment!

I went to Marrakesh a few years ago and it completely lived up to my expectations, if not went beyond them! So beautiful and chaotic – but in a fantastic way. And the food… oh the food!

Have you heard of the beach town Essaouira http://www.lonelyplanet.com/morocco/the-atlantic-coast/essaouira? I would definitely recommend going there too its one of Morocco’s coastal cities but it is so blue and white, with wonderful tiled inner courtyards and the freshest and tastiest seafood I have ever had! They catch it and cook it straight away.

Let me know if you go!

  3. Nice contrast to Holly’s last post Trisha… I like that your styles appear to differ.

I have to say that I’m not a fan of Moroccan styles, but do think one or two well chosen pieces can work well, especially with a harsher industrial aesthetic.

Thanks for your comment Gerard :)

Holly and I definitely do have very different styles, but luckily we meet somewhere in the middle sometimes! I agree, I think so the most part bits and pieces of Moroccan style work better for every day interiors!

  4. Ha. Your tastes might differ but there’s always a happy medium.

I think this interior is too timid for me, a bit like a pastel one in Europe. If Moroccan it has to be full of colour and intricate patterns. Much more bold than this one…. I do love Moroccan interiors! x
