Home Style Guide: the Scandinavian look

We’re really excited to share the start of a new feature here at WeHeartHome called Home Style Guide. We will be examining different interior styles by outlining their basic elements. Since home design is so important to us, we hope that these guides will offer a brief overview of the style in question, so that one may better understand and recognise that specific style.

That said, we believe that a mix of interior styles that portray the personality of the inhabitants is how one creates their best home. So these guides should be taken for exactly what they’re called – guides, and not to be mistaken for rules. They’re meant to inspire your home decor and offer some background but we highly suggest they are adapted to one’s own tastes and preferences.

So let’s start with our very first one!

Home Style Guide: The Scandinavian Look

So what do you think of this quick guide? Is it informative enough or is it too simple? Would you refer to it for a quick reminder of the fundamentals of the Scandinavian look? We would love to hear your thoughts so we can better our guides in the future.

And rest assured, we will always leave you with some interiors inspiration to accompany the guides.  Feast your eyes on these!

Hi Tina! So glad you like the idea of this feature. The goal is to try to make is as simple and stripped down as possible … which is kind of hard since interior styles grow and evolve all the time. But we’re looking to communicate the basic elements. Looking forward to creating our next one already :)

      You are SO WELCOME!! xoxoxo

    Hi Holly,

I like the look, but I’d also like to see some more wood tones. I’m looking forwards to reading more about the elements of interior styles.

Hey Chris! Nice to see you here! Yes, Scandinavian interiors can not be without wood … wood floors, wood wall panelling, wood furniture, wooden accessories (especially hand carved, like bowls and spoons). I’ve noticed however, that in the current Scandinavian interior style it seems quite trendy to paint over wood (especially in white). Have you noticed that? I like the visual effect sometimes, but I can’t help but feel it’s somehow such a shame to cover up wood. I have a feeling you’d agree with me on that ;)

      Xx.

This is fabulous, Holly! I love the Scandinavian look for interiors and I think the key to Scandi interior styling is light. A lot of natural light and the prolongation of natural light through a dominance of white and natural materials. Wood and white are the features I’d mention just after the lighting. And beautifully patterned, geometric home textiles. Great feature!

Yay Igor! So glad you like the new feature and thanks for your insightful comment. I agree with your thoughts completely :)

      Have fun in Paris!! Xx.
