During the winter, I found it extremely easy to sit around eating pies, cakes and drinking cola and fanta. Awful I know – my body was most definitely not a temple, but rather some kind of hellish rubbish tip.  BUT that is the past and after a run yesterday and seeing some photos that I did NOT like I have been given the perfect motivation to once again eat healthily and just be more aware of my intake. YES HEALTHY EATING!

So, as I have a food blog where I primarily bake very sweet things that are full of butter and sugar, I thought this would prove extremely difficult. But I have decided that I will have Saturday as my bake day and bake a couple of lovely things to put on my blog over the week. The week will be full of exercise and healthy food.. whether it will have a great effect on my physicality I don’t know, but I already feel a lot better and it has only been a few days. So, psychologically it is working.

I definitely don’t believe in cutting out the things you love completely. I just don’t think this works for most people. So the cake and pies will still be there, but more in the background. As will the wine….

I thought I would share some delicious looking and healthy recipes that I found, in case anyone else was on a health kick.

Fennel and Lemon Seabass

I know they use a whole fish here, but if you aren’t comfortable with that then just use fillets. Fennel is one of my favourite spring flavours, but if you don’t like it simply use the recipe without it. If the fish is fresh enough, it doesn’t need the fennel to make the flavours pop!

Spring Chicken in a Pot

I think this chicken one pot is great, because it reinvents the traditional stew and makes it greener, lighter and fresher while still satisfying my need for feeling full!

I would love recommendations of healthy recipes if anyone knows any!

When I grow up, I want to live in a house with high ceilings and beautiful wooden beams. With a massive fireplace and lots of light. Well.. we can all dream! As we haven’t done any Rooms We Heart posts recently, I thought I would give you guys a variety of rooms with beams in and see which one you like best? My favourite is definitely the one on the top right.. so nice and rustic looking with that awesome pendant lamp. They really look like they have a story behind them… Maybe the wood is taken from a huge ship. That would be cool.

Holly’s favourite is the top left. She loves the beams and thinks that without them this room would be a tad boring. I agree.

Which beams do you like best? Or are you just anti-beam in general?

These office chairs rock

Really like the simplicity of the kitchen! Especially with these wonderful bar stools  and I have always been a big fan of the island in the middle of a kitchen. How I would love to have that many surfaces to cook on. Sometimes my tiny kitchen just gets insanely messy, extremely quickly.

This rug is so cool – great stripes and it works well with the rest of the black and white prints. Pretty brave the amount of different patterns going on here, but works well, in my opinion.

I know what you’re thinking – this headboard is gorgeous right. I know it isn’t for everybody, but it is still very cool and striking. Well, guess what? The headboard  is just a plain white denim upholstered headboard with a scarf thrown over it. An H&M scarf!

In general I think it is great how many different styles and colours are running through this home – intertwining as you go. My favourite room is the kitchen – if I had that kitchen I think I would be in it about 90 % of the time… just baking and being smug about how amazing my kitchen is.

With all the sun we have been having in Berlin… I have bought myself some lovely cut flowers (peonies) to brighten up my room! It makes such a difference both in terms of fragrance and vitality of my space. My mother used to take me to Covent Garden market at 5 in the morning to get the best cuts and cheapest prices… it was always a sight to behold. A warehouse full of beautiful flowers of every kind. Their sweet fragrances wafting around the place. The juxtaposition of the macho florists and the concrete warehouse against those delicate flowers was pretty funny too.

Despite being seen as a cheap not so beautiful flower, my favourite will always be carnations.. and if I ever get married… I will have a carnation bouquet. I don’t care if people think they are petrol station flowers. They have so many petals and I love them.

Hi Everyone,

I know we haven’t done a recipe post in a while. I have been doing a lot of posts over at my baking blog Sugar Thumb and so, I thought I would show you one of them for the foodies out there. If you haven’t had churros before, they are a Spanish/Mexican snack  extremely easy to make. In fact, there is no baking involved, just frying. They are like long, crunchy donuts and I like to add cinnamon sugar and chocolate dipping sauce.

These are the chairs I featured in my weekly wishlist – aren’t they fantastic! So curvy and detailed yet strong looking! Really love this minimal interior. Does anyone know the designer’s name?

Awesome rug – really brave and cool combination with the completely bare white look and this vibrant textured rug.

Ok, so I do realize that it is Spring and I should be wishing for things that are lighter in colour and that brown is traditionally associated with Autumn. But I genuinely only just realized that I love brown. I think years of seeing turtle-necks and corderoy in brown, had put me off. But these chairs are just awesome – number 2 will be featured on tomorrow’s Interior of the Week, it’s gonna be a goodie, so don’t miss it.

In our first post in the Rental tips series, we talked about walls – now it’s the floor’s turn! A lot of rented properties can have a dodgy floor which is simply cheap and nothing else. This post will show you how you can make your floors as much your own as the rest of the decor – for a reasonable price. These are all great for renters because they are reversable rather than permanent flooring solutions.

Let’s go:

1. Laminate

Laminate flooring is one of the most popular flooring choices around – and for good reason! Not only does it look like real wood floor, it can be easily put down over wood or concrete floors. No glue or nails are needed as there is simply a “click in” system, so it is perfect if you are renting! It is extremely robust and easy to maintain!

2. Vinyl

While a lot of people think that all vinyl needs to be stuck down with strong adhesive, if you are just covering some uglier vinyl, Apartment Therapy recommends that you just cut a perfect template and stick it down at the edges with a glue that is easy to scrape off. Here is the article.

3. Rugs

You know when they say “sweep it under the rug” … well as a renter with hideous floors, this might very well be a great option. My friend Philippa had a hideous room in our student house back in our uni days, and she covered the floors in rugs and the place looks so much cosier. I would say the key is to get one or two larger rugs to cover the majority of the floor. I genuinely think that if you have more than one rug you have to be very careful not to clutter – but sometimes it is better to just take on clashing as an aesthetic rather than trying to make them match too much. Here is a great post on how to do layered rugs.

Today, we are honoured to present our blog of the month for May: Hege In France.    We simply adore her passion for interior design and her simple and uncomplicated style. We also included some images from Hege’s blog to give you a better idea. Enjoy!

Tell us a little bit about you and your blog, Hege.

I’m a down to earth Norwegian girl living in France. I live here with my husband and son, Magnus who’s 6. I’ve always been really passionate about interior design, but I also love making things. I started my blog Hege in France in November 2011. On my blog I feature both my own home, DIY projects and inspiration I find. I love searching for inspiration on Pinterest.

What is it about where you live that makes you smile the most?

 That once your step out the front door you’re in the country side. It’s beautiful here.

 What home project is next on your list?

I’ll be updating my brother’s apartment in Oslo this summer, so that’s my number one at the moment. We’ve only got a couple of weeks to do it, so it’ll be hard work, but I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun too. I’m hoping for a huge change. We’ll see what he’s up for.

What is your favourite interior style/aesthetic?

At the moment my favourite would have to be all white. Nordic I guess, but I also like a minimalistic style and clean lines even though I probably couldn’t live like that myself.

What is your interior style turn-off?

Carpets.. Not sure why, but we never had them at home when I grew up and I just can’t get used to them..

What does home mean to you?

Home is where I spend most of my time, as I don’t just live here, but work from home too. It means somewhere we can all spend time together.
